Luke 14 and 15 teachings of Jesus

Do the teachings of Jesus really mean anything?

Do the teachings of Jesus really mean anything?

www.larryloveutah.com

In May 2013 I will be in a musical production of The Prodigal Son (1400 West 700 South, SLC, UT – 10th and 11th 7PM both nights and 3PM on the 11th there is no charge for admission) and I received a blessing from Andres Paredes (From Peru) and in that blessing where he laid his hands on my head he told me to prepare to share my talents first by studying the words of Jesus.

So I went to the Bible and rather than just read about the story of the Prodigal son I read before hand and looked at who Jesus Christ was talking to. I don’t pretend to be an expert in the Bible although I constantly find new insights the more I read. I have read Luke 14 and 15 many times but this time specific things jumped out at me.

Andres Paredes writes music for the most part and he also writes the lyrics although sometimes he asks for help with the words. For the songs he used ideas and words out of the Bible as he should have. It seems it is hard to get people interested in ancient teachings especially my teenagers. Many of the teachings match with teachings from other Prophets or teachers although the claim that Jesus was the Son of God is really the main point and that he suffered for the sins of the word and resurrected so all mankind could have the gifts of forgiveness and resurrection.

What Jesus taught in the Prodigal son is well known, he taught that we should forgive others. The short story is as follows: A Man has two sons, he gives his inheritance to them and one son stays with the man to help take care of the duties of the home and the other son takes his money and goes and wastes it ending up with nothing and coming home eventually humbled and willing to just be a servant if need be but the father welcomes him and has a party. The son that stayed with his father is upset that the father would welcome the son by killing a calf for a dinner when the father has never done that for him before.

Christ was talking to Jews who actually had the attitude that they were better than others who were not living the law as they were living it.

Christ did teach of the woman who dropped a silver coin and obviously spent time searching for the coin because of it’s value. Then he spoke of how a Sheppard if he has 100 sheep and loses one, will leave the 99 in order to find one lost one. This all compares to how valuable even one sinner is to God who loves all men. The Prodigal son obviously was a sinner and he humbled himself and came back to the fold. The beautiful tale of how the father forgave him and welcomed him back indicates that God will do the same for all of us. People within churches often forget that we are all sinners.

We can also learn that people in a Church atmosphere should not get attitudes of feeling that they are better than anyone else and that we should care about those that have lost their way and be forgiving when they decide to come back. Just because I go to Church does not make me any better than someone who does not go to a church. Just because I live the commandments or look like I am living the commandments does not make me better than anyone else. All of us are sinners it is just that many times you see the sins of others easier.

So back to Luke 14 and 15. Most people are familiar with most of the stories in the Bible and in these chapters we learn of Christs teachings to the Jewish leaders, people, sinners and the publicans (free lance tax collectors, not overly liked by the people so they were lumped into the group of sinners that Christ was looked down upon for hanging out with)

Christ was eating at the home of one of the top Pharisees who were one of the two main groups of Jewish leaders (Note: The Pharisees believed in angels and the resurrection of the dead whereas the Sadducees one of the other main groups of Jewish leaders did not believe in angels nor resurrection) So Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath (Saturday the Jewish day of rest) and Jesus poses several questions to those around him directing his comments to the lawyers and pharisees. He asks if it is ok to heal someone on the Sabbath. First you need to know that the law of Moses got really detailed with many many things you could and mostly could not do and the people became obsessed with the law rather than with the true meaning of why they had rules and laws.

Christ then gives them a story or just a simple example and asks if your animal like an ox falls into a pit on the Sabbath can you get the animal out? Nobody answered him on either question.

Then in Luke chapter 14 verse 7 Jesus begins to teach them about humility and of it’s importance. He tells them that when you go to a party you should not take the place of honor but take a lesser position until you are invited to a place of honor. Then he gives some additional counsel that when you make a dinner that rather than inviting family, friends or rich neighbors you should invite the poor and those that have no way to pay you back because if you invite a rich person then they will seem obligated to repay the favor and that is not what it is all about. I know you can find additional meaning in these verses and many people talk of double and triple meanings along with hidden things and that is all well and good. For now we will deal with what I feel is obvious.

So we have this lesson of humility ( Being teachable and not high and mighty) the great lesson of us learning to be like God (The Father in the story) who is forgiving and merciful to all that come to him with a repentant heart. There are still consequences to our actions although as we learn to humble and loving as God is we can better our lives and the lives of our Children. These core teachings should never be ignored in our families. We spend far to much time finding fault with others rather than practicing our own doctrine of love and forgiveness.

Why does alarm monitoring vary in cost?

Each panel is a bit different

Each panel is a bit different

WHY DO SOME COMPANIES OFFER MONITORING FOR LESS MONEY?

We just got a call from one of our customers that had switched their account over to a different company. The new company had switched the old Bosch/Radionics and installed a new DMP brand system. DMP is a good brand, the company is smaller than Bosch and has a different dealer set. .

The short answer is money, they want to get the accounts to have the RMR or recurring monthly revenue. Many times they will drop the price for the first year and then each year after that add a little bit so eventually they may end up paying more than they were with the first company and normally they charge more for labor and parts to make up the difference. In this case they under bid our company by $5 dollars per month or $60 less per year.

Their new company was too busy to go out and service the system so we went out on an Emergency call for them. We still did not have any of the codes nor could we put the system in test without the manger so when you switch to a new company make sure you understand what the consequences of switching are.

The new company is licensed, insured and is a good company although their company has a longer wait for service calls. They gave the customer a lower monthly rate on the monitoring although the service is a bit different and they changed out all the equipment for new equipment and had them sign a contract. Now the employees of that store also have to re-learn how to use the new system since it is a bit different as well in operation.

The $60 dollar savings per year may or may not be worth it to them. Already they are a bit discouraged because we used to go out and do service many times the same day or the next day and now they are put on a waiting list for a week. When you have an issue with one of your alarms it is difficult to wait a week so is it really worth the $60 per year savings? That is up to you.

There are several other factors that you can compare when comparing pricing on monitoring. Some companies want computer access so they can check history and such, others want the system to send all the opening and closing reports to their email so they can see what time the system is being disarmed and armed up each day. Some companies want Smartphone control for their systems and this costs a bit more. Other companies need cellular backup in case their phone lines are cut. So depending on your needs we customize a package that will be affordable and professional.

Creative cooking for teens

What’s in your kitchen?

I learned to cook from my Filipina mother in law. She had a restaurant and no recipes. I keep many different types of items in my kitchen in order to make food that is different and not boring. This seems to have worked with 5 kids and even when they passed through their teen years most of the time they would eat what I would make. My youngest 14 year old son is a bit picky but even he will eat my Tamarindo Soup with Vegetables and shrimp. Many of my ingredients I find in the oriental stores. I have shown a few of the items that I have in my kitchen below.

I also buy the garlic that is ready to cut and at the oriental store they have it in plastic, it is fresh and easy to use. I make different oriental noodles, white and black rice and once in a while sticky rice. I love to try new things and sometimes they don’t work out but most of the time they do. I try not to do fried food very often but once in a while I will make lumpia (fried meat roll) from the Philippines. This is quite the process. Sinigan is my kids favorite dish that I make so they ask for it about every 3 months. It costs about $40 dollars to make a large container and we eat it for about 2 days. I normally put 3 pounds of shrimp and another pound of other sea food in it.

This is a large container and the flavor is great, you can eat these right out of the jar. These help give a wonderful flavor addition to just about anything. Go buy some on Tuesday. About 3550 South Redwood Road it's called Tay Do and the jar costs like $7 dollars but lasts a long time. Great for food storage.

This is like jerky, except it is octopus jerky or squid and it is spicy, well you can buy the one that is not but that is not as good. My two daughters and I love this as a snack. It sounds strange but you need to try new things to appreciate them. Who knows you may love it like we do.

Another favorite snack is the dried Mango in small bags, you can get it with chile or without and it is sweet. We also buy the $2 dollar Vietnamese sandwhiches with the strange ingredients and some of you may have to take out the hot peppers before you eat it or ask for them without the peppers. (The best part) They sell these in Tay Do market on Redwood Road and they are wonderful or as my daughter would say they are SICK. That means good. They have meat and vegetables in them.

This comes frozen and is $8 which is about 14 oz and you just add it to an alfredo sauce and put over pasta and it is incredible. You can buy the white lump meat or the claw meat we have done both and love it. I make a non dairy white sauce and it is killer good.

I buy lots of different vegetables and in the oriental market there are lots of things I don’t recognize. I bought some shredded green papaya the other day and mixed it with chili (Siracha), 2 tablespoons of sugar, yes sugar, 1 tablespoon of PATIS FISH SAUCE and some white vinegar and it turned out killer good. So with teens you can be creative and try new things. Nothing I have made very hurt them and they seem to like the fact that we don’t eat the same things all the time. My mom used to make the same 7 meals over and over so each week we knew what we were having. Sometimes I tell the kids just to make sandwich but most of the time we can throw something together quite quickly and we try to make it healthy.

Just buy them you will like them. Some are bitter once in a while but then you find out which ones to buy and all of a sudden you feel great because they are very healthy.

It takes skill to pull these apart after they thaw out without ripping them, so you can use a moist cloth and separate them one at a time, have patience and don't rush. These get a meat mixture put inside and then wrapped and deep friend. I mix garlic, shredded carrots, pork, beef and shimp with other things as well to make a lovely lumpia that you can dip in a sweet chili sauce.

We put this on eggs, lumpia and whatever. There is also a jafron banana sauce that you can use like ketchup and it is red too. This sweet sauce is almost addicting. I bought a bottle for my brother in law who is Guatemalan and now they have to go buy it because he likes it so much.

As you can see food is a big part of our life, I can’t stand eating the same thing all the time and when I make soup I try to make different types so the kids don’t get bored. We eat Asian food but I also make Filipino food and even Mexican food. I used to make my own pasta and even color with vegies or carrots but now I try to be creative without taking as much time. I love to talk about food and make it and eat it. When I was in Guatemala I had to cook and we even went and bought live fish and brought them back to town so I could cook them. I can’t get the kids to come into the kitchen and learn anything from me, they only want to come in and eat so I guess they will be eating ramen noodles all through college unless they start learning to cook now.

Neighborhood emergency plan CERT training for disasters

Neighborhood Emergency Plan and family emergency plan

CERT Teams assist people before, during and after a disaster.

CERT Teams assist people before, during and after a disaster.

Feb 2013

Some community councils and neighborhoods have come up with plans for their areas to follow in the event of a major problem. In case of a disaster, CERT members should self activate by taking care of their own family, checking on their neighbors and then reporting to a designated meeting place to receive assignments. CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. To become CERT trained you can take the 21-24 hour CERT course offered by the city for $30 dollars and this will help you become prepared in disaster medical training, lifting heavy objects of someone safely, CERT organization, disaster psychology & fire suppression. Each neighborhood has different needs plan ahead.

By developing a community emergency plan you can help avoid confusion and have a clear plan for neighbors to follow. When people have an idea of what services will be available and where they can go for help this promotes peace of mind. Alternate locations should also be decided beforehand incase the primary location is too damaged to use.

Everyone should learn the basics of first aid because in an emergency such as a major earthquake you cannot depend on having the 911 service work and most of the Police, Firemen and Medical people will be reporting to Hospitals, Schools and Large buildings so the neighborhoods will be on their own. For this reason we suggest that everyone take first aid classes offered by The American Red Cross along with CPR and AED classes. http://www.redcross.org/utah

We also encourage people that are interested to become HAM radio certified which will also be very helpful in a disaster. Many times during disasters cell phones and land lines do not function properly or at all.

Some communities have passed out cards or colored flags which can indicate if you have a problem at your home or business. These flags or cards may or may not be part of each individual neighborhood’s plan. Once you have made sure your family is fine and you have checked your home to make sure there is no danger staying inside you could shelter in place or if the home was too damaged you could set up a tent in a safe area behind or on the side of your home where debris would not fall on the tent when aftershocks occur. Draw a large X on the front door or next to the front door and this will indicate that CERT teams do not need to search your home. You may use paint, marker, duct tape or construction crayons to make the X. CERT Kits will have different equipment than 72 hour kits. (Should be 120 hour kits)

Do not shut off the gas unless there is a leak. It is prudent to turn off the valves going into and out of your water heater to avoid contamination thereby providing you with safe drinking water. Make sure your water heater is secured.
What should community members do that are not CERT trained? When you are safely able to report to your community’s meeting area you can offer your assistance and talents at the volunteer check in area. When you show up to help make sure you wear as much safety equipment as possible such as safety glasses, boots, orange vest if you have one, hard hat, work gloves, flashlight, first aid kit, canteen, and such. Many tools such as gas powered chain saws may also be needed if trees are down etc…( Eagle projects could also be done making back boards or containers of bandages.)

The person in charge can decide where to best put your talents to use such as Transportation of victims, teaming up with trained CERT members to go door to door with light search and rescue checking on people, helping prepare food for workers and victims, setting up a rest area, setting up latrines (bathrooms), setting up medical areas and several others aspects. The Church naturally will take care of specific areas. Primary/Displaced children, Food Prep/ RS etc……
We are at the point where disasters are happening more frequently and the intensity has also increased so it is prudent to seek out training as soon as possible so when something does happen you will be part of the solution and not part of the problem. www.slccert.org

Make a goal to do something each month to help prepare in some way.

Seikoshta lesson 022313 attitude consequences positive thinking motives

Figuring out the consequences beforehand for several actions and then making a wise decision

The glass is half full

Change your thoughts change your life.

What if exercise:

Chess – Think ahead – Be patient, balanced yet act in a reasonable time. Since you have planned things out before hand your thought process has already been decided and therefore your actions can be quick.

Sending an Army to war: They need food, rest, ammo. How much does it cost to get the food there? Is it worth the final result? In the book “The Art of War” they discuss many aspects of risk, preparation and logistics. (Getting men, food and equipment from point A to point B) weigh the costs and the risks of your actions ahead of time.

Eating too much, not eating enough, effect on organs, health, ability to function. Once again, we can’t just tell someone that is bulimic or anorexic to just stop and eat right because there are other aspects that have to be dealt with treating the person as a whole. The thought process has to be changed through therapy and the physical body also has to be treated. When you don’t eat right then your body starts to eat itself so to speak. You can become weak and have major problems when you don’t get the nutrition you need. The same applies to exercise and even to doing too much exercise as well. Find a balance. Avoid apathy, always try to learn something new each day.

Letting things that others say bother you. What effect does it have on you and how does it affect others?
Paying all your bills when you get some extra money. Is this wise? Weigh the options out and have an emergency fund. Using credit wisely. Don’t fall into the trap. Check places charge over 400% interest but if it is only 2wks sometimes it is only 18% but don’t be fooled. If you get a tax refund paying off your bills would be a good thing but if your credit is bad then having an emergency fund is also very important. If your mother dies and she lives in another state then you may need to fly to the funeral so you should have an emergency fund in case of something like a death or if you lose your job.

I learned the above lesson from a college course and although the professor was teaching a class about the housing market and how to buy and sell homes he taught us much more. He also had a PHD in Psychology and would talk about many issues. He explained the poor people have poor ways and rich people have rich ways and it is your thought process. People will try to save money changing their own oil when in fact they end up wasting time that could be used more productively with your family or making much more money that would bring back returns while you were sleeping. Getting money to make money for you whether you are there or not. Those type of investments can turn your life around. It may be hard to move into a home that is not so nice, fix it up for the next two years and then move again but the process can also generate much more income than a normal job. If you are changing your own oil because you enjoy taking care of your car that is one thing but if you buy $20 in oil and a $5 filter yourself rather than paying the extra $10 dollars to have someone else do it then you may be missing opportunities elsewhere.

The classic example of this is someone that makes $10 per hour giving up overtime work where they could be making $15 per hour because they want to leave their job early so they can change their own oil that night. They are not thinking things through. They might save $10 dollars in labor but they will be working on the car on their own time which is also costing them money. Your time is worth more than you think. Milo taught me that along with many other valuable lessons. If you can pay a neighbor boy $10 to mow your lawn you may have just freed up time where you can spend time with your family that you might not otherwise have and at the same time you are helping the neighbor boy earn money he needs and you are also working on your marriage. Use your time wisely, rich people tend to waste less time than poor people. Poor people have poor thoughts.

When you say “I never have any money” this becomes self fulfilling prophesy because you will never have any money. According to the law of attraction you get more about what you talk about, think about and spend your time on. If you are spending your time on non productive things you will get more of that in your life and have a non productive life. Make a priority list and balance it between family, work, church, community, education etc…. Changing your statements into statements of why will make all the difference in the world because it gives your brain something to think about. Why am I such a good neighbor? Why am I such a great businessperson? Why am I such a good student? You mind will work on these statements and begin to look or solutions and answers. Why am I so healthy? You mind tries to answer this and it comes up with things like: Because I exercise, because I eat right, because I take time to rest and so on. When you are not doing the thing you should your mind helps change your course back to a good course of action using the WHY statements. If you just say “I am healthy” you mind has nothing to work on and your mind recognizes this as a LIE so it is really counter productive to use these type of statements. Change it to WHY AM I…….
Let your mind help transform you into a more educated, loving, nice, productive, healthy person.

If you put too much priority on your family and you don’t make enough money to support them then you very well could loose your family. If you spend too much time at work never spending time with your family then you could loose your family. If you don’t stay up on qualifications and training you may not get the promotions at work so getting the education and training you need is also important. If you ignore your social life then you may not feel a sense of well being so try to mix some of the things that will work on more than one item at a time. As an example you could listen to learning MP3 files while you were at the gym. You could go on a walk with your husband or wife or cook dinner together. You could start a family business to make extra money and the list goes on. If you take dancing lessons together you would be working on your exercise, social skills and family all at the same time. Neglecting one or more areas of your life will throw you out of balance.

Karate: If you hit or hurt someone are you willing to deal with the consequences of your actions for the rest of your life? Only use these methods to help and defend in emergency situations. If there is another way out then use it.
Do not use these techniques in school, work or when others can be involved to solve the problem because the consequences of jail and mistrust are not worth it.

Ask yourself if your friends tease you or are goofing off what you need to prove to them…..Nothing, it is not worth hurting someone just to prove you can beat them up or hurt them.

Plan each incident out in your mind first and asking your mind and body to react differently in each situation according to how urgent the fight or conflict is. Does it matter if someone thinks you are weak or a coward? Use this to your advantage. Think it through one step at a time and then several steps at a time. Always ask yourself what your options are and then ask yourself what their options are.

Ask yourself why they are doing what they are doing. What is their motive and once you know this and put yourself in their shoes then you can plan accordingly. Put yourself in their place. Know how blessed you are to be in the spot you are in.

If you fail to plan you plan to fail

If you plan ahead you are setting yourself up for success. Seikoshta (Saykoshta) Successful
Enjoy life, enjoy the hard times because you know it will get better. Enjoy youth because later your eyesight my go, you body does not react as fast or even at all sometimes so feel blessed and share love not hate or bad feelings.

(Newspaper trick) A group of people were called in to do an exercise and they were asked to count how many pictures there were in a newspaper. The people that were positive people or more optimistic not only counted the pictures but they noticed a headline that said if you read this you win $100 dollars. The newspapers was fake and the pessimistic people would only count the pictures and report doing the minimum requirement.

You see we create our own luck with our attitude and our outlook. Those that always look on the bright side of things deal with stress better than others. This simple analysis does not discount those with deep depression or other issues although overall people that tend to read positive things, watch positive uplifting movies and shows tend to think positively and their actions and words also tend to be positive.

You get more of what you give, you get more of what you talk about and think about for the majority of the time. So don’t think about negative things but dwell on the good, the positive and life will change.

Question

Ken,
What are the negative ramifications for a customer that uses a non-licensed alarm installer in the state of New York. I was on an estimate the other day and I got into a conversation with a prospective client about the importance of using a licensed alarm company such as mine. She said that she had done some Internet research on the topic of licensed alarm installers in the State of New York and decided to call only licensed companies as she would assume that they are more qualified to do the job but nowhere could she find what the negative ramifications for the client would be that used a non-licensed installer. She saw the penalties for the alarm company but again nothing about the client. Honestly after all of these years in the business I couldn’t definitively answer her question other then speculation about insurance coverage, etc.
So I ask you – What are the negative ramifications for a customer that uses a non-licensed alarm installer in the State of New York.
Thank you for all you do for our industry.

The issue isn’t limited to New York; it’s a great question for all licensed jurisdictions, which is most states. Considering all of the requirements for getting an Alarm Installer License in New York I’m surprised you couldn’t come up with a few quick responses. So why would a customer care if the alarm dealer was licensed? Maybe price is all the customer should care about, or a suave sales pitch, or immediate installation, a fancy advertisement, or reputation or just a recommendation from a friend. Well I can think of a few responses, and I’m sure there are many more.

Licensing laws generally include some level of competency requirements;
education and testing; maybe continued education or certification levels. The license insures at least some level of competence.
criminal background check for all employees who will have any contact with the customer. Customers don’t do their own background checks and this may be the single most important response you could offer.
Some jurisdictions require licensed dealers to maintain certain minimum standards of operation, such as contracts, insurance and standards.
Most jurisdictions will receive and act upon complaints made against licensed contracts, a remedy that may not be available if the customer chooses to deal with an unlicensed contractor.
A licensed dealer has demonstrated that at a minimum he is willing to abide and conform to the licensing laws. That choose to disobey the licensing law may be ignoring lots of other laws that are designed to protect consumers.

You may want to ask a few questions of your own when confronted with a customer who is making you bid against a non licensed contractor. [and let’s face it, you may have some difficulty competing with an unlicensed contractor – why? because the unlicensed contractor doesn’t have your expenses for license compliance, insurance, employee wages; might even get his equipment at Midnight Alarm Supplies or off a truck]. So ask, would the customer allow his or her kids to be picked up by a school bus employing driver’s without driver’s licenses or vehicle insurance? No? Then why would they allow someone unlicensed into their home and trust them with their security and safety?

Have spare parts on hand order ahead of time

Be Prudent and order a extra one or two parts:

Having spare parts is important when accidents happen.

Above you will find our facebook page and helpful hints about commercial security and fire alarm systems. Take a few minutes to review these items especially if you are a loss prevention or rick officer in your company.

Just the other day we got a call from a customer needing some parts and we got them ordered. The door holders arrived but the extensions take several business days to come since they are special order.

On some items it is good to plan ahead because of matters like this. Sometimes it is prudent to order extra parts and have them on hand.

If you know that specific door holders, door contacts or keypads get damaged then order some to have on hand so when the forklift damages a contact you can replace it on the same day.

It is also wise to have metal guards installed so the forklift will be less likely to damage other equipment.

Some companies will even order certain things off of Ebay and other sites although care should be taken when doing this because many of our manufacturers such as Bosch offer a warranty and most of the time that does not apply when you buy parts off of certain web sites and sometimes you end up getting refurbished or B stock.

So you need occupancy what’s next? PEAK ALARM

Fire Alarms are a very important part of the occupancy inspection Fire Alarms are a very important part of the occupancy inspection[/caption]

Each area is different so contact a local Fire Alarm Company to help you do an analysis on your new building.

https://www.facebook.com/alarmsinutah

If you have just leased or purchased a new office building be aware that the AHJ Fire Marshal will need to inspect the building to make sure it meets code before occupancy.

You will need fire extinguishers in the proper places
The Fire Alarm will need to be monitored in most cases
You will need 2 analog phone lines for the fire panel
If you monitor off the Internet you may need a static IP address
Radio and or High Supervision Cellular are other options
You will need a smoke detector installed at the Fire Alarm Panel
The Flow and Tamper switches need to be tied to the FACP
Depending on the building Horn/Strobes in egress areas
You will need at least one emergency pull station
Most of the time you will need strobes or minis in restrooms
If there is an elevator there are additional requirements
You will need a current green tag on your fire alarm
You will need a current green tag on your sprinkler system
These tags require different certifications
You will need a current Fire Alarm inspection NFPA 72 report

If you are adding office areas or making changes you will need to pull a permit to do so and if the Fire Alarm will need changes and additions then you will need to do the following:

1. Submit Plans (3 sets) to the City with the Fire Alarm including cut sheets, voltage line drop calculations, battery calculations to make sure you have enough battery power to run the system for 5 min after the power has been off for 24 hours. A Fire Alarm contractor can help you with these submittals.

2. There is a permit fee that has to be paid depending on the work that needs to be done.

3. If your building is not up to code many times the AHJ Fire Marshal will require that you bring it up to code at the time of remodel so it is smart to meet with him or her to go over these items.

4. The Fire Marshal will then come and do a test. The power to the Fire Alarm will need to be shut off 24 hours before the test and then when the alarm is set off the Horn/Strobes need to function for at least 5 min. (Longer in buildings over 75 feet high) The Fire Marshal may want to be there when the power is shut off as well.

Each city is a bit different and some AHJ Fire Marshals require that you have a PE stamp on the drawings. PE (Professional Engineer) It is prudent to have the plans reviewed by a Fire Alarm Professional as well since that is what we do on a daily basis.

Plenum wire for fire alarm

Plenum wire needs to be used when you run wire in plenum spaces

Plenum wire needs to be used when you run wire in plenum spaces

Security and Fire Hints https://www.facebook.com/alarmsinutah

WHAT IS PLENUM WIRE?

Plenum wire costs more than normal wire. If you need us to bid using plenum wire please let us know.

Plenum wire doe not put off as much toxic fumes as normal wire does when the wire is burning. Plenum wire also meets all the criteria of riser wire so it will also hold it’s own weight in a shaft.

Plenum wire is needed when you install wire in a plenum space.

If you have specific air ducts that transfer the air within your building normally the wire would not need to plenum except sometimes electrical engineers or the owner may require it.

If you don’t have specific air ducts that transfer the air but if the air is moved about say above the drop tile ceiling without duct work then this may be a plenum area.

Fire Alarm wire/cable is normally solid cable. 14 gauge 2 conductor is normally used for Horn/Strobes and 18 gauge wire is normally used for smoke detectors, flow switches, tamper switches, pull stations, PIV tie ins etc… Some of the systems require 4 conductor (2 wires for power and 2 wires for data) other systems power the smokes over a 2 conductor cable.

FPLP is Fire Alarm wire/cable that is plenum

FPLR is Fire Alarm wire/cable that is meant to be used if you are pulling wire between floors or in a building where there are more than one level. This wire will hold it’s own weight in a shaft. This cable or wire is used when running wire in between floors and it is best to use this throughout when installing an alarm in a multilevel building.

FPL is Fire Alarm wire/cable used in NON PLENUM areas with one level. Normally this wire is RED although you can buy white FPL

Normally you don’t install more than 8 Horn/strobes per circuit unless your power supply is large enough and your fire alarm contractor will also do voltage line drop calculations to make sure you will get enough current at the last appliance depending on how long your runs are.
