Senior Citizen monitoring discount Peak Alarm

Marilyn Sheppick

Peak Alarm will lock in Senior Citizens at a fixed monitoring rate. Senior Citizens often are on a fixed income and having a monitoring company increase their rates every years on their security system monitoring does not help.

My mother remarried and I found out she was paying 72 dollars a month through one of the largest national security monitoring companies and the rates had increased over the years. The 72 dollars a month was only for monthly monitoring and did not include other services it was through the phone line. I called that company to make the change since they were out of contract and it was very difficult to get them to cancel the agreement even though they were not under contract any longer. I lowered her rate and added a medical button which she did end up pushing when she fell in the bathroom. Peak Alarm’s monitoring rates start at $26 dollars a month and depending on what services you decide on such as another $10 for cellular or another $5 for interactive remote arm and disarm the rates can be a bit higher but once a senior is locked in they keep that rate. Jerry Howe the owner made this decision and we have been in business for over 48 years.

In business since 1969. Peak has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau with only 1 current complaint listed as of 09/04/17

Better Business Bureau web site www.bbb.org

When looking for an alarm company keep in mind that large national companies sometimes are not as flexible as a local company. Look for a company that has been in business and has been consistant and it is also prudent to check the BBB web site for complaints. Some of the alarm companies in Utah have over 1000 complaints that have been filed.

When to reuse existing alarm equipment

When I visit someones home to make recommendations of what equipment to reuse if any I look for a few things:

1. Are the smoke detectors over 10 years old, if so they should be replaced. This refers to smoke detectors tied to your alarm system. You should also replace your old 120 Volt smokes with 9 volt battery backup that are not tied to your alarm. You should have at least one smoke detector up and one down that is tied to the system so the authorities will be alerted when you are not there.

2. I look for hardwired zones because Peak Alarm can simply add a take over module and monitor existing hardwired zones. Depending on the size of your system we can use different brands to accomplish this.

3. I look for the brand and model numbers of the equipment. Often we can reuse wireless equipment by adding a module or special receiver which will save you money and we will simply put new batteries in those devices.

4. If you want to use your old loud siren we will need to add a relay and a power supply. It is quite simple but it does cost a bit more if you are going to one of the new systems that has the siren built in.

5. Consider water sensors, temp sensors if the temperature drops below 41 you can get notified before the pipes freeze and then cause a flood when they thaw. Monitoring for water and temperature is wise and can mitigate possible problems.

6. I look for existing wiring and how it was done.

7. Give me a call and I can come out and look at your system and make some recommendations. 801 428 1384 Larry@peakalarm.com

8. Monitoring typically costs between $45 and $55 dollars. When I bundle the system I can lower the overall costs of monitoring

Contact Larry and he will come out and help you decide which equipment to reuse.

Examples:

$30 Typical Monitoring cost
$10 Typical cellular monthly charge
$5 Typical interactive (Elite) to alarm remote arm and disarm using your cellular
$10 Typical charge for areas like Salt Lake or WVC to have a guard respond since police won’t. (Peak has their own guards/patrol)
$7 Starts at $7 and goes up depending on the size of the security system for a repair agreement extended warranty

When I do a bundle I can offer some discounts.

$25 Monitoring
$13 Interactive
$7 Repair agreement
$10 Alarm response

Total $55 per month for a home or business in Salt Lake with alarm response. Most companies start interactive at $49 without alarm response or a repair agreement. Without alarm response it would be $45

If you add camera control that adds $10 per month for 1-4 cameras for cameras that are part of the security system. When they are separate there is not a monthly fee.

Most companies use a third party central station or an out of state central station. Peak Alarm is local and employees over 300 people here in Utah and Idaho.

When you are a senior citizen we can lock your monitoring rate in for life so please call me about this. I don’t know of any company that does this in Salt Lake.

What’s interesting or alarming about alarms?

Just plain good

Just plain good

Often people think of alarm systems as alerting the police or the fire department of a burglar or of a fire alarm and that is true although now they do so much more. Here are a few examples of what current alarm systems can do for you. What type of services can Peak Alarm provide?

Commercial and Residential Services both for the homeowner, contractor or business owner. Design, installation, testing, training and monitoring. Phone line monitoring, Radio monitoring on our own frequency licensed by the FCC, Cellular monitoring & Internet monitoring

REMOTE GARAGE DOOR
1. Did you for get to shut your garage door or your not sure if you did? Open your alarm app check and go ahead and close the door from anywhere.

REMOTE CONTROL OF LIGHTING
2. Did you mean to turn on or turn off a light before you left the house? Do it from your app or have the lights randomly turn on and off when you are not there or even when you are there. Have them turn on when it gets dark and then shut off at 10PM or 11PM and turn back on at 5AM or 6AM and then turn off at 7AM

REMOTE THERMOSTATS & CAMERAS
3. When you are on vacation do you worry about the temperature in your home? If you have fish or other pets do you worry about them when you are gone?
Use the alarm app to adjust the temperature up or down or just check it. Use the app to look in on your pets or children with cameras that we can install in strategic places.

REMOTE VIDEO DOORBELL
4. Have you ever wanted to know who came to your door while you were away? If UPS or the Mail main were to come to your home while you were gone how cool would it be to answer the door with a video phone and even let them into the garage to leave a package and then shut the garage? Now you can with the SKYBELL or Alarm.com Video Bell. View and talk to those that come to your door. It alerts you and you can tell them you can’t come to the door and they will have no idea whether you are home or not.

HEAT SMOKE FREEZE, CO (Carbon Monoxide) and WATER SENSORS
5. If you are on vacation and it is winter your pilot light or the furnace may stop working. If the home drops below freezing the pipes could freeze and even cause expensive flooding when the thaw back out. Get heat, smoke, freeze and water sensors installed on your security system to alert you to these issues. This will end up saving you in the long run and they are not that expensive to have installed. If the basement floods it will cost you thousands of dollars. If the pipes freeze it can also cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars. If the house burns down you or your family could be hurt or killed. Often smoke will overcome people while they sleep so having smoke alarms that alert the fire department is much better than just the smokes that wake you up (which often don’t wake you up) CO sensors can also be added to your security system and having the smokes, heat, freeze, Co and water sensors does not cost you anything additional to monitor them per month. The installation will cost but the monthly monitoring will not. If you are paying for normal phone line monitoring you will need to add a cellular and elite control (interactive arm/disarm) to view your alarms over your smart phone. The world of alarms is changing.

LOCKS
6. Do you worry that if your children have lost 3 or 4 or more keys that someone might find one of them and get into your home or even their friends might? With a keyless entry lock your children or employees can access your home or business without keys. In a business we install prox card readers in homes we install a keyless entry lock which allows them to enter without a key and you can even unlock the home using one of these locks and your smart phone.

MOTIONS, GLASS BREAK, SHOCK, DOOR AND WINDOW STATUS SENSORS and Monitored 24 hour lockdown status to your gun rooms or datavaults.
7. Peak Alarm can install all types of security for your business or home including the above normal items associated with security or any of the ones we mentioned at first. Call Larry Love 801 428 1384 Larry@peakalarm.com http://www.peakalarm.com

ACCESS CONTROL FOR BUSINESS SITES
8. Do away with keys and have Peak Alarm install Peakedge access control. You can access the system online and add and delete users. When someone quits or is fired you cancel their card access instead of trying to get keys back from them or trying to rekey your facility.

CAMERAS
9. Peak Alarm can install several different types of camera systems. Call Larry and he can come by your facility or home to go over the different options. You can access these cameras using your smart phone to view your home, business or pets remotely from anywhere.

INTERCOM
10. Peak will install a weatherproof intercom and door release system on your home or business so you can talk to those that come to the door.

PERS
11. Peak can install a system in your home or business with medical alert buttons that you wear on your wrist, around your next or mounted buttons. These can be programed as panic buttons to call the police or medical buttons to alert a family member or alert emergency services. Yes this can be used if you have fallen down and cannot get up. The buttons are water resistant.

VIDOFIED
12. Peak Alarm offers special services for situations where you need our dispatchers to verify if the intruder is an animal or a human. This is great for empty buildings, car lots, tow lots and much more. Call Larry for more information. This system does not require power to work but will transfer pictures over the internet to the dispatchers upon alarm and they will decide to send police or not.

Negative experiences from customers about one of the DO IT YOURSELF ALARM COMPANIES.

I chose this company because of their online information _______________________________ however I found out that is totally a sham. I am visually disabled and required my friends help to install the system it turned out to be way more difficult than suggested on their website and they do not provide support whatsoever. The problem was the alarm before it was even configured kept setting itself off with a piercing siren and the only way to turn it off with cutting the wires and they still would not help me. Do not purchase the system under any circumstances if you are not technically inclined

_________________________is not a good business and does not really care about its customers and here are three concrete examples that can illustrate the issue. 1. You can upgrade the service online anytime! Really easy to pay more to use an app that should be included in basic service. But to Downgrade they force you to call in to dissuade you with wait times and just pure inconvenience. Not focused on the customer clearly just the bottom line. 2. When you call to downgrade. They do not credit you any part of the month that you did not get access to the upgraded service. So you have to call on the day it renews or they will profit for “enhanced services” they did not provide. May be a good class action suit because I am not sure that is legal.. If they provide the upgraded services for 1 out of 30 days you call to downgrade but they keep the money for the full month? That should not be legal and it is certainly not customer focused. __________________________could build customer loyalty and a better brand by simply changing these practices but they rely on the fact that you have invested in the product and now are stuck.

I was a customer of _____________________________, and i received a motion sensor that kept notifying an alarm. I moved the sensor around to different locations and it was always the same sensor that kept giving false alarms. This happened 4 times and i received an outstanding bill for $450.I received a new sensor and the false alarm stopped; this let me know it was a faulty sensor. I tried calling the company to see if we can come to an agreement, and they told me that they could not help in any way. They didn’t offer a solution or even attempt to keep me as a customer. I wonder how a company that doesn’t stand behind their products is still ____ accredited. All i wanted was home security and instead i have an outstanding amount due of $450. needless to say i would not recommend _____________________ to anyone.

This is nothing big but first impressions are important. They had already charged for the system and monthly payment. Gave us a tracking number that cant be tracked, looks like they haven’t ship it out yet. No one responds to our email and it has been a week since we place an order. We are extremely disappointed and will consider keeping the system or not after receiving it.

I just contacted Tech Support because the ******* ***** ****** stopped working a couple of days ago. The technician I spoke with was less than interested in my problem and said there was nothing he could do and I would have to reset the system and see if that corrected the problem. I have ________________________ and am paying so that when I’m away from home I will know that my home is protected. However I now find out that when I’m away from home and have a problem with the system, _______________________ can be done nothing to correct a problem. Unbelievable and I think the technician I spoke with is better suited to work where there is no customer contact.

Have had ___________________________ service for 4 months and 2 failures with the system requiring me to manually reset the system. I am out of town and cannot physically reset the system, so what good is it ?

I have been a paying customer with this alarm company only to find out that I have been paying for a service that was NOT in place from their company!!! They are NOT registered with the police department. Therefore, if my burglar alarm is triggered, they WILL NOT dispatch the police due to a mistake on their part. Even worse, my home alarm was triggered and I received a call from ________________ who then notified me that the police will not come to my home due to ____________________________ not having a contract in Colorado Springs! What the hell am I paying for? to hear that my property is being robbed and they are not dispatching police?? I feel like I have ripped off!!!

These are only some of the examples of the complaints against this company.

Peak Alarm is Licensed, is insured and has trained technicians that can install your system professionally and our central station is UL listed and 5 diamond certified. I cannot guarantee that you won’t have any problems although as a local company that has been in business for over 47 years Peak Alarm strives to provide a great service for a fair price. Peak is considering offering do it yourself kits and we will research the information and look for the best system if we decide to go in that direction. As a local company we provide a professional service that out of state companies cannot.

The complaints above are from a company that does not provide the same type of monitoring as Peak Alarm does. The systems purchased above were bought and the customers had to install the systems themselves. Peak Alarm has live operators that will talk to you 24 hours a day. We also have Guards that can respond in Salt Lake City for a very reasonable price and no other security company in Salt Lake has their own guard/patrol service, AV division, alarm division and a UL listed Central Station all in one company.

http://www.peakalarm.com

The Salt Lake City Police will not respond to security alarms unless they are PANIC alarms in which case they will respond hence if you go with Peak Alarm for only $10 per month we will add Alarm response in certain areas of Salt Lake City so we will send a guard out. We include 4 alarm responses per year and additional responses will be $50 per response. So with 4 included that comes to $120 per year or $30 per response which is a very fair price for sending out a licensed security patrol guard.

Call Larry Love 801 428 1384 for more information about alarm systems with a no cost quote and I can email you additional information to help you with your comparisons. Larry@peakalarm.com If there is anything posted on this site that is found to be offensive or in violation of any copy write law please notify Larry Love and it will immediately be taken of the web site. These complaints do not list which company is being refereed to and are real complaints and our suggestion is that you research all companies ahead of time before you purchase so your experience will be an informed one and a better experience than these customers had.

Comparing alarm companies in Utah?

Do your research before buying

Do your research before buying

When comparing alarm companies do a bit of research first. Here are some points to help you get the best value:

Check the Better Business Bureau www.bbb.org before buying from any company. Often by overlooking this step you may get what you feel is a good deal and free equipment only to be put in a bind where you have to wait on hold 30 minutes just to be transferred to another department, given the run around and then cut off. If you don’t like buying services from a company that you can’t call easily it won’t be any better calling that same company for services they are not experts in.

Sort through local and National Companies carefully. Some of the National companies have thousands of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau and they don’t care. They are making so much money they don’t care if people complain. Often local companies will strive to provide the best service so consider buying local. Peak Alarm has only had one complaint filed in the last 3 years with the Better Business Bureau. http://www.peakalarm.com Mountain Alarm (Fire Protection Services) has only had two complaints filed in the last 3 years. www.mountainalarm.com

Both of these companies are licensed, insured and local companies. Both of these companies have an incredible record with the Better Business Bureau. Now consider a company that has over 3700 complaints and ask yourself why they have that many. One such company is a large company and my manager told me that their company is 83 times as large as our company as far as accounts go. So I responded, shouldn’t they have just 83 complaints compared to our 1 then? No they have over 3700 complaints.

There are some companies that have DO IT YOURSELF INSTALLATION equipment and very low monitoring rates. Do the research on this as well because often computers will handle the calls or very low paid employees that are not even in the country. Sometimes the owner can follow the instructions and install a system like this just fine. Often the DO IT YOURSELF equipment is very limited as to the features, often these systems have a limit as to how many zones or points can be added. The systems normally cannot partition and sometimes not having the installation done by a professional really does cause problems. Weigh the PROS and the CONS and you decide.

Ask if the company has live monitoring and if the central station is UL listed?

PRICES FROM ONE OF THE MAIN DO IT YOURSELF SECURITY COMPANIES:

$199 Equipment costs (Cancel anytime) No live monitoring
$10 – $14.99 Monitoring per month ($10 less than local company with live operators)
$10 per month to add a camera (Same as local company)
$10 per month to add cellular backup (Same as local company)
There are YOUTUBE videos showing how this system can be defeated using simple equipment from an electronic store.

Cellular with a camera $35.00 per month

PRICES FROM A UL LISTED LOCAL COMPANY THAT DOES PROFESSIONAL LICENSED AND INSURED INSTALLATIONS IN UTAH

$99 Installation (Equipment is subsidized over a 36 month agreement) Live operators 24/7 with UL listed Central station
$25-32 Per month for monitoring (You get what you pay for)
$10 per month to add 1-4 cameras
$10 extra per month to add cellular backup
$5 extra per month to add elite control (interactive arm/disarm)
There are many other services available because of our live operators.
Peak Alarm Central Station is 5 Diamond Certified (Only just over 200 of the Central Stations in the US have this certification)
Peak Alarm is the only Local Utah company that also has a full Guard/Patrol Division and an AV Divsion
Peak Alarm is Licensed and Insured and all employees have passed the FBI background check

Cellular with a camera $15 dollars more although you get a local live person handing the situation and you get a local company that is licensed, insured and has over 47 years in the business.

Larry Love at Peak Alarm can arrange MTM Month to Month monitoring at our UL listed Central Station for Fire Alarm or Security intrusion monitoring. ESPANOL / INGLES

Larry@peakalarm.com (801) 428 1384 http://www.peakalarm.com

Understand that when we do MTM / Month to month we cannot subsidize the equipment or the labor so we will need the upfront costs taken care of at signup. On our basic Peaklink it would be about $900 upfront and then we can do a MTM Month to Month agreement at a good monitoring rate>

Monitoring rates vary depending on the services you request. We can be as low as $25 per month for phoneline monitoring, as low as $35 per month on cell monitoring and normally around $40 per month on AES Radio monitoring, Fire Alarm cellular monitoring is right around $48 per month because of the high supervision signals that need to be sent every 6 minutes on the cellular unit. Call Larry for individual rates. If you have multiple properties or businesses we can work a deal. If you need a repair agreement added we can help with that or if you need Guard Response on alarms because Salt Lake won’t respond then it will be $10 per month extra and includes 4 responses per year on alarms.
