We can lower your installation cost when you sign a 3 year agreement because we can subsidize some of the cost over time. We can do contracts that are less time but we would not be able to lower the install as much. We can even do month to month agreements but the upfront cost would be more.

Any time you have a licensed, insurred and certified company you will end up paying a bit more for their services although this is worth it.

Labor rates at Peak are $100 per hour for residential and $145 per hour for commerical. When I am in a bidding situation I can lower the hourly labor rate a bit when we run it through my department.

Check the Better Business Bureau on all of your alarm companies. Peak has a very good track record at the BBB. In the last 3 years we only have one complaint that is shown on our record. Many of our competitors have a great deal more complaints.

Why do security monitoring costs vary so much?

1. Like cell phone plans you can pay more up front and less per month or less upfront and more per month.

2. There are many additional services such as late to close, early to open, web access, auto arm/disarm, elevator monitoring, schedules, lock control, lighting control, garage door control and the list goes on. Depending on which services you have the rates vary.

3. Analog phone line monitoring could be right around $26.00 dollars per month

4. Cell phone monitoring could be as low as $35.00 per month

5. Interactive monitoring where you can arm and disarm may be as low as $40 per month although if the price is a bit more you can lower the upfront costs.

6. There is no such thing as security companies giving you free equipment. If you lock into a 36 month agreement with Peak Alarm for $44.00 per month and you pay $99 upfront your overall costs add up to $1,683.00 over the 36 months. With a 60 month is it much more money.

7. A company that claims to give you free equipment normally has a 40 or 60 month agreement and normally the interactive starts at $49 per month so over the period of 60 months you are paying $2,940.00 even if it were at the same monitoring rate of $44 it would still be much more $2,640 so the FREE equipment is not really free.

8. Know that if you are getting rid of your landline (analog phone line) to upgrade to a cellular that will give you interactive arm and disarm often you will need to upgrade your alarm panel so the cost to do so varies from system to system depending on how old it is. Radio is another option for monitoring.

Before going with any security company go through a simple checklist:

1. Check the Better Business Bureau for how many complaints, the type of complaints and reviews. www.bbb.org
Two of the large competitors have over 3000 complaints that have been filed.

2. If the security system is internet based know that if the power goes out so will your security system.
Sure the system is less expensive but ask yourself why is it less money?

3. If you only have a phone line connected and the phone line is cut no signals will be sent. (Install AES Radio or Cellular)
Having both phone and cell is fine but phone only or internet only is not as secure.

4. Ask yourself if you would buy Chinese food from your plumber. If not then buy security from a security company not a cable company.
We specialize in security, we don’t do other things outside of that scope. Look online and find out what type of service others have gotten from that company. When you buy cable TV or Dish often it is very easy to buy but how good is the customer service after you have purchased? Are they a local company?

5. Is their central station UL listed and 5 Diamond Certified? Why should you care? It makes a difference.
If you are dealing with a local company they know the area and they are easier to deal with.

6. Does the alarm company you are going with have a Guard/Patrol service inhouse? If you are in SLC know that Police do not respond to normal alarms.

Why should you be skeptical of TOP lists found online? ANSWER: Because many of those sites listing top 5 or top 10 are PAID SERVICES.

One of the sites gave a number #1 recommendation for an alarm company that has over 3800 complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Better Business Bureau web site www.bbb.org

Look up each and every company you intend on getting pricing from. Check for government actions against them, law suits and reviews. The above company that was rated number one has government actions pending against them. They are a very large company so when comparing them against local companies you need to understand that if they have a million accounts then they are 83 times larger than say Peak Alarm who only has 12,000 accounts. So that being the case this company should have 83 times the complaints right? That would mean they should have 83 complaints if they are on the same level as a local company that has one complaint. Peak Alarm has 1 complaint that has been filed with the www.bbb.org in the last 3 years and this number 1 listed alarm company has over 3800 complaints which is over 400% more complaints so take the fact that these top 5 or top 10 lists are paid services.

The above companies are all licensed by the Utah Division of Occupational Licensing and they are also insured. All of the above companies do not concentrate on LICK and STICK products. (Just wireless) so they have extensive experience with commercial and residential products unlike many of the new companies that just do wireless. The technicians understand the industry and all of these companies are qualified to do commercial fire alarm, intrusion, access control and cameras.

Now if we look at the companies that spend the most money on advertising and companies that have the most accounts then the list could change.

ADT Security Services ADT web site This company has 127 years in business.This is a licensed and insured company.

Now we do need to mention ADT which is a National Alarm company and now they own Protection One. ADT Security Services on the Better Business Bureau Web site has over ________complaints that have been filed in the last 3 years, granted they are a very large company. ____% of their reviews on the BBB are negative although many people do have good experiences with this company. Now that they own Protection one we will see if they will be doing anything different. Protection one was in business 29 years before they were purchased by ADT. Protection one only has about 16% of the amount of complaints that ADT has. Rather than saying anything negative about this company I would encourage you to look at the better business bureau report for each company yourself. Going with a national company sometimes has it advantages and other times when you go with a very large company it can be difficult to get to the proper department when you do need help. I dread calling my cable company for service for the same reason because I am normally on for over a hour just trying to talk to someone. Going with a local company can have advantages. If you are trying to sign up for service the lines are clear and the process is quick. If you are trying to get service after your system has been installed it is a bit different.

Vivint Smart Home Security has 18 years in business, before they were Vivint they were APX and also APEX and they also own other companies that are involved in their monitoring and their alarm installation keeping certain aspects of their business separate for legal reasons. Vivint Smart home web site This is a Utah company and they are a very large company. They do mostly wireless alarm systems and they have accounts all over the country and in Canada. They spend a great deal of money on advertising and they are a very successful company. Their business model seems to be working although time will tell if it will continue to function as the market seems to get saturated. They seem to be getting into other areas of business rather than just security systems. Vivint has had issues with unlicensed individuals working for them and they have paid their fines and it seems they are striving to do things as per the book now but with any company that large there seems to be challenges with having so many employees.

So when comparing companies there are companies that spend a great deal on advertising and there are companies that have more accounts than other companies so they are in the TOP 10 or TOP 5 list in certain areas.

When a company tells you that the equipment is FREE read the fine print because when it is all said an done all alarm companies are in business to make money not to give stuff away. They will either make their money now or later but they will make money. They will either sign you up for a longer term, charge more now or raise your rates after a year or two. One of these companies was charging my mother over 70 per month for basic phone line monitoring with no interactive services and no other services and it took me quite a while on the line to get her account canceled even though she was out of contract. This basic service should cost around $25-30 per month.

Peak take complaints seriously and I met with the owner and the CEO of the company and they review these comments and use them as a way to improve what we are currently doing. Peak Alarm also does not do Credit Checks. Peak does not give away free equipment either and that is why we have been in business so long. You may get a song and a dance from other companies claiming to give you something FREE but the truth is that equipment is not free, you will either pay more per month or you will pay for a longer period of time. So if the install is free compare against a normal Peak Alarm plan and you will see that we measure up in many ways that others don’t. Often other companies will run a credit check, they will also charge you more than $50 per month for normal monitoring services when Peak can give you additional services that other companies can for the same or for less money per month.

Beware of Monitoring companies that have very low cost plans per month because often they are computerized, or they are out of state or out of the country and the person calling you does not know anything about Salt Lake, Utah or Idaho when Peak Employees do. Negative experiences from customers about one of the DO IT YOURSELF ALARM COMPANIES.

I chose this company because of their online information _______________________________ however I found out that is totally a sham. I am visually disabled and required my friends help to install the system it turned out to be way more difficult than suggested on their website and they do not provide support whatsoever. The problem was the alarm before it was even configured kept setting itself off with a piercing siren and the only way to turn it off with cutting the wires and they still would not help me. Do not purchase the system under any circumstances if you are not technically inclined

_________________________is not a good business and does not really care about its customers and here are three concrete examples that can illustrate the issue. 1. You can upgrade the service online anytime! Really easy to pay more to use an app that should be included in basic service. But to Downgrade they force you to call in to dissuade you with wait times and just pure inconvenience. Not focused on the customer clearly just the bottom line. 2. When you call to downgrade. They do not credit you any part of the month that you did not get access to the upgraded service. So you have to call on the day it renews or they will profit for “enhanced services” they did not provide. May be a good class action suit because I am not sure that is legal.. If they provide the upgraded services for 1 out of 30 days you call to downgrade but they keep the money for the full month? That should not be legal and it is certainly not customer focused. __________________________could build customer loyalty and a better brand by simply changing these practices but they rely on the fact that you have invested in the product and now are stuck.

I was a customer of _____________________________, and i received a motion sensor that kept notifying an alarm. I moved the sensor around to different locations and it was always the same sensor that kept giving false alarms.This happened 4 times and i received an outstanding bill for $450.I received a new sensor and the false alarm stopped; this let me know it was a faulty sensor. I tried calling the company to see if we can come to an agreement, and they told me that they could not help in any way.They didn’t offer a solution or even attempt to keep me as a customer. I wonder how a company that doesn’t stand behind their products is still ____ accredited. All i wanted was home security and instead i have an outstanding amount due of $450. needless to say i would not recommend _____________________ to anyone.

This is nothing big but first impressions are important. They had already charged for the system and monthly payment. Gave us a tracking number that cant be tracked, looks like they haven’t ship it out yet. No one responds to our email and it has been a week since we place an order. We are extremely disappointed and will consider keeping the system or not after receiving it.

I just contacted Tech Support because the ******* ***** ****** stopped working a couple of days ago. The technician I spoke with was less than interested in my problem and said there was nothing he could do and I would have to reset the system and see if that corrected the problem. I have ________________________ and am paying so that when I’m away from home I will know that my home is protected. However I now find out that when I’m away from home and have a problem with the system, _______________________ can be done nothing to correct a problem. Unbelievable and I think the technician I spoke with is better suited to work where there is no customer contact.

Have had ___________________________ service for 4 months and 2 failures with the system requiring me to manually reset the system. I am out of town and cannot physically reset the system, so what good is it ?

I have been a paying customer with this alarm company only to find out that I have been paying for a service that was NOT in place from their company!!! They are NOT registered with the police department. Therefore, if my burglar alarm is triggered, they WILL NOT dispatch the police due to a mistake on their part. Even worse, my home alarm was triggered and I received a call from ________________ who then notified me that the police will not come to my home due to ____________________________ not having a contract in Colorado Springs! What the hell am I paying for? to hear that my property is being robbed and they are not dispatching police?? I feel like I have ripped off!!!

These are only some of the examples of the complaints against this company.

Peak Alarm is Licensed, is insured and has trained technicians that can install your system professionally and our central station is UL listed and 5 diamond certified. I cannot guarantee that you won’t have any problems although as a local company that has been in business for over 47 years Peak Alarm strives to provide a great service for a fair price. Peak is considering offering do it yourself kits and we will research the information and look for the best system if we decide to go in that direction. As a local company we provide a professional service that out of state companies cannot.

The complaints above are from a company that does not provide the same type of monitoring as Peak Alarm does. The systems purchased above were bought and the customers had to install the systems themselves. Peak Alarm has live operators that will talk to you 24 hours a day. We also have Guards that can respond in Salt Lake City for a very reasonable price and no other security company in Salt Lake has their own guard/patrol service, AV division, alarm division and a UL listed Central Station all in one company.

The Salt Lake City Police will not respond to security alarms unless they are PANIC alarms in which case they will respond hence if you go with Peak Alarm for only $10 per month we will add Alarm response in certain areas of Salt Lake City so we will send a guard out. We include 4 alarm responses per year and additional responses will be $50 per response. So with 4 included that comes to $120 per year or $30 per response which is a very fair price for sending out a licensed security patrol guard.

Peak Alarm continues to train all their departments and the new WHITE GLOVE initiative is to help step up our customer service and also treat each other with more respect. Peak also puts all their employees through FBI background checks and even local police department checks.

Some of the other important points of the training were as follows:

All 22 of those in the training answered various questions and had to get answers from others in the group to complete the surveys.

1. What do you dislike most in a sales rep? Being Pushy, High Pressure, Late and Dishonest were the top four answers.

2. When a salesperson is talking to you, what interactions make you feel uncomfortable? Lack of knowledge, talking too much without listening

3. How do you as the customer define value? Bang for your buck. Not everyone will buy the most expensive product and most won’t buy the least expensive product but customers want quality and a fair price. Many are willing to go with a solid company like Peak Alarm even if the prices are a bit higher because Peak offers a whole package of same day or next day service, UL Listed Central Station, Guard and Patrol Service and top notch sales teams that are knowledgeable.

We discussed some of the tried and true principles of sales such as A.Preliminaries (Hello etc…) B. Investigating stage – What do they want, what do they need and what is their budget? C. Demonstrating – What is the capability of the products that Peak Alarm offers and D. Obtaining Commitment in the form of a signed proposal or agreement.

We learned about the research done between larger dollar sales and smaller items and how high pressure sales techniques actually hurt your possibility of getting a commitment when dealing in larger dollar amounts. The smaller purchases that can be related to impulse buying don’t cause as much buyer remorse. Getting a bad deal on a larger product such as a car can affect more people than the customer. Often other security companies hire very young people and teach them these high pressure sales techniques so they can go out and get quick sales. These are the same companies that are being sued in several states and that have thousands of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau.

Peak Alarm is proud that we have only had one complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau in the last 3 years as of 9/22/16 and zero complaints in the last two years.

We had a session on contracts and learned quite a bit about the ins and outs of these agreements and why we need them to protect the company and the customer.

We made long lists of items that we can improve on and among the list of items we determined that some of the most important things we all should be working on are: Being Honest at all times, Showing up early to each appointment and if we cannot then making sure we call ahead of time to let our customer know what happened and when we will arrive. Another skill that we all need to work on is COMMUNICATION. One of the most important parts of this skill is LISTENING so we learned some techniques associated with listening, body language and personalities. Product knowledge is important although we have a large team of people that can help with that and learning what our customers need and getting them pricing in a professional timely manner will make all the difference in the world. We also went over the importance of sending out hand written thank you cards.

We had a training during our two day training sessions where the sales team actually programmed a DMP security system so we could learn what the techs go through and have a better understanding of how the technical side works. Hands on training We also had a class about customer service and the options our Central Station can offer the customer. Well that is short recap of this training and then we ended with several of our team members getting awards for their efforts.
