Security companies in Utah are not equal

Not all companies are alike

You’ve heard that we should compare apples to apples rather than apples and oranges.

Company One – UL listed monitoring station – backup generators – extra personnel on duty – secure facility – backup equipment in case of failure
Company two operating with one piece of equipment and no backup and one person in the facility. They they have a heart attack signals are not sent on to authorities.

Company one – NO COMPLAINTS WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
Many other companies – OVER 1000 COMPLAINTS two of our competitors have over 3000 complaints (ASK WHY) – Sure you will find complaints on the internet for any company although looking at the BBB.org is important because they investigate both sides of the issues so a customer that knows they did not pay their bill and should have normally won’t file a complaint but will complain online.

Company one – Advertises with actual commercials and word of mouth advertising.
Many other companies pay to be on a top ten alarm company list so when the internet pulls up results also check the Better Business Bureau not just a top internet list that is paid for.

Company one in business since 1969 not using gimmicks of offering free equipment
Many other companies giving free equipment out like candy – Often they go out of business in a few years.

Company one puts together custom systems to meet your needs
Other companies don’t address individual needs as well because they are cookie cutter companies

Company one has actual people that you can talk with and personal service
Many other companies are very difficult to talk to after you have purchased the system and need anything else.

So your installing a new security system beware?

Security in Utah

Security Systems in Utah

Before going with any security company go through a simple checklist:

1. Check the Better Business Bureau for how many complaints, the type of complaints and reviews. www.bbb.org
Two of the large competitors have over 3000 complaints that have been filed.

2. If the security system is internet based know that if the power goes out so will your security system.
Sure the system is less expensive but ask yourself why is it less money?

3. If you only have a phone line connected and the phone line is cut no signals will be sent. (Install AES Radio or Cellular)
Having both phone and cell is fine but phone only or internet only is not as secure.

4. Ask yourself if you would buy Chinese food from your plumber. If not then buy security from a security company not a cable company.
We specialize in security, we don’t do other things outside of that scope. Look online and find out what type of service others have gotten from that company. When you buy cable TV or Dish often it is very easy to buy but how good is the customer service after you have purchased? Are they a local company?

5. Is their central station UL listed and 5 Diamond Certified? Why should you care? It makes a difference.
If you are dealing with a local company they know the area and they are easier to deal with.

6. Does the alarm company you are going with have a Guard/Patrol service inhouse? If you are in SLC know that Police do not respond to normal alarms.

A. Peak Alarm has only had one complaint in the last 3 years.
B. Peak Can install an AES Radio or Cellular communicator with battery backup in case the power goes out.
C. Peak is a local company that has been in business for over 48 years
D. Peak Alarm has a full service Guard/Patrol, UL listed central Station that is 5 Diamond certified
E. Peak Alarm is a local with all employees having been through an extensive FBI background check.

Cameras tied to the internet

Peak Alarm, Peak Guard, Peak AV, Peak Central Station

Peak Alarm, Peak Guard, Peak AV, Peak Central Station

If a company ties cameras into your internet and they tell you they will work fine without checking your upload speed I would not trust them. First you should look up your UPLOAD speed because if it is not at least 2.5mbps you may have problems seeing your cameras remotely.

TO CHECK YOUR UPLOAD SPEED FREE WITHOUT LOADING ANY SOFTWARE ONTO YOUR COMPUTER GO HERE Test my upload and download speed free

I just tested my speed here at my company and it was 19.34 Download and for the UPLOAD it was 14.81mbps so we could install IP cameras and view them from our smart phones just fine.

I view my cameras that I have at home remotely using my phone but sometimes it takes longer for them to load and I have to load 4 at a time rather than all 12 of my cameras. That is because my upload speed is not as high at home as it is at my office.

If your upload speed was say 1.4mbps your cameras might not work very well so make sure it is at least 2.5mbps

Alarm Communications Utah

My daughter listening to her music

Phone lines – Analog (old copper type) being phased out. Normally the cost for dedicated analog phone lines is over $30 per month per line to the phone company. A fire panel that has 2 analog lines could be very expensive to continue using the phone lines. Most of the time copper turns to digital a couple hundred feet out the door.

VOIP – Voice Over Internet Protocol – Not very reliable sending alarm signals. We will do our best to make it work for security although we will not use it for Fire Signals and alarms. It cuts out the highs and lows and many times you lose information. It is best to seek another solution such as Radio or Cellular. Since we are depending on someone else’s equipment to get the signals this is not our preferred method of communication.

Cellular – Standard or High Supervision for fire and high security that sends signals every 6 minutes. Normally adds $10 per month for standard cell and $22 per month extra for High Supervision Cellular which is very reliable. 1G (1981), 2G (1992)”being taken off the systems by phone companies right now” 3G (2001) 4G (2007) 5G (2020)

Radio- This is a very reliable method as well. Peak Alarm has a mesh network that is very robust.

Network – IP – Peak Alarm gets signals from our DMP panels over the Internet within one or two seconds. The drawback is that the system is only as strong as it’s weakest link so if the UPS backup is not done properly we won’t get signals if the network goes down or if the provider has the network go down very often you could miss a fire alarm. You could use this as your primary method and use cellular or Radio as your backup.
