IP Verses Analog Camera systems

Cameras

Camera Systems in Salt Lake City

2.1MP Cameras have 3 times the resolution of a 700TVL analog camera and now with the new 4K cameras out (about 12 Mega Pixels) it’s much more definition as long as you have a 4K Monitor. A 700TVL camera is about 700,000 whereas the 2.1MP is 2.1 Million

Typical wire for an analog camera system was RG59 Coax with the 18g2c power wire and now the IP cameras run on CAT5 or CAT6 cable

Tell your camera contractor how many days of storage you need so you can pick the proper amount of storage, typically we recommend 1TB for every camera to get around 30 days of storage

Instead of a DVR Digital Video Recorder the IP cameras have NVRs which are Network Video Recorders. Typically you can install a camera no more than 328 feet from the recorder although with special equipment we can install cameras further than that.

Peak Alarm has experts in cameras as well as fire alarm, access control and security. Call Larry for a free site visit and pricing

When you buy systems from a big box store the quality is not the same. When you hold a $30 dollar camera in your hand and hold a $300 dollar camera in the other hand the difference is marked.

Cameras tied to the internet

Peak Alarm, Peak Guard, Peak AV, Peak Central Station

Peak Alarm, Peak Guard, Peak AV, Peak Central Station

If a company ties cameras into your internet and they tell you they will work fine without checking your upload speed I would not trust them. First you should look up your UPLOAD speed because if it is not at least 2.5mbps you may have problems seeing your cameras remotely.

TO CHECK YOUR UPLOAD SPEED FREE WITHOUT LOADING ANY SOFTWARE ONTO YOUR COMPUTER GO HERE Test my upload and download speed free

I just tested my speed here at my company and it was 19.34 Download and for the UPLOAD it was 14.81mbps so we could install IP cameras and view them from our smart phones just fine.

I view my cameras that I have at home remotely using my phone but sometimes it takes longer for them to load and I have to load 4 at a time rather than all 12 of my cameras. That is because my upload speed is not as high at home as it is at my office.

If your upload speed was say 1.4mbps your cameras might not work very well so make sure it is at least 2.5mbps

Peak Alarm can install many different brands and help you with your systems. call Larry for more information and NO COST site visit evaluation. We can also help you so you can store video on the cloud as well as at your NVR or DVR at your home or business

Camera Systems are a deterrent

Peak Alarm web site

Camera systems will not stop vandalism and other criminal activity although it can deter it.

Having good lighting is also very important. In combination with an alarm system, cameras and lighting can and will deter criminal activity. Often when they run into an area with cameras they will move on to an area without cameras.

Peak Alarm has different levels of alarms systems and camera systems. We have entry level, medium level and high end systems. When you go with a camera system that costs less money sometimes you sacrifice quality. A $50 dollar camera is very different from a $400 dollar camera and a $400 dollar camera is different from a $1000 dollar camera that you can load analitics onto. When you research cameras AXIS cameras are top of the line. We have different methods of using camera systems at Peak Alarm.

We have systems that are dispatchers can monitor and determine if there is an actual issue that requires the police or not.

Security concerns

Each panel is a bit different

Each panel is a bit different

Many have security concerns such as what if someone breaks the glass and comes in a window?

What if someone cuts our phone line?

What if someone breaks through the wall next door?

What if an ex-employee tries to get in using their old code and password?

We have had all of the above happen and more. Believe me, when someone wants to get in they will although having a professional security system can be a deterrent and make it less likely that these things will happen to you when you are not the easiest target.

Optional Solutions
Have motions, door contacts and glass break sensors installed.
Have a cellular or radio installed so getting your phone line cut will not be an issue.
Change your codes and passwords whenever employees are let go or leave. Delete their code the same day and change the password that same day.
Do you have a security contact on your roof hatch?

Peak Alarm has the man power, professional experience and know how to address each of these concerns. Peak Alarm has been in business for over 46 years and we have offices in Utah and Idaho along with our local UL listed central station, patrol, guard and AV divisions you can count on Peak Alarm.

Why should I avoid a big box store camera system?

When a product is quite a bit less expensive you need to question why.

When a product is quite a bit less expensive you need to question why.

Mystery meat is one thing but mystery camera systems is another. Often what happens is someone will come to Peak Alarm for a real system after having purchased these cheap camera systems from a big box store.

Peak Alarm offers solutions to your camera needs at very reasonable prices with high quality equipment.

When you pay for a professional installation using quality equipment you will note that there is a very big difference. It is the same with cars. A luxury car is made quite differently from an entry level car built for the masses.

1. Many times the equipment will be questionable and when you do the math sometimes you end up getting a camera system for $50 or $100 dollars per camera. Think about it carefully, you do get what you pay for.

2. Much of the time the cable and the connectors are not universal but will only work with that particular system so my advice is to buy 2 or three of those systems so you have replacements because later on the factories do not build or support many of these low end systems when trying to get parts.

3. IP and Analog cameras are very different and with IP you get a much higher resolution. IP cameras can also have very similar specifications yet be very different. We have an awesome quality camera that is 2.8mm to 12mm Verifocal, IP66 weather rated, 3MP, vandal dome for $400 dollars yet we also offer an AXIS brand camera with very similar specifications for over $1000 each.

4. Do you want to be able to recognize people or identify them? Lower end cameras often leave much to be desired when you want to provide the police with a disk or USB stick. The differences between AXIS cameras and big box store cameras are like night and day.

5. Peak Alarm has over 46 years of experience and is licensed, insured and factory trained to install camera systems. I am an AXIS CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL and many other employees and techs here at Peak Alarm also have this same certification. In order to obtain this we took a week course and a grueling test which not everyone passed. Others had to study, review and then retake the test to pass it.

Big Box store camera systems

Commerical Camera Systems

Install camera systems to reduce theft

A customer has requested that we install a camera system because he has already installed 2 different big box camera systems that don’t work well.

I tell people that do this to buy 2 or 3 of the kits because many times cameras or the NVR will stop working and sometimes the cable connectors are not universal so you can’t find parts because they get them from Asia where they make so many and then move on to a different type of product and no longer support the older product.

PRICE / FEATURES / QUALITY / WARRANTY / PROFESSIONAL INSTALL

Stay away from $50 dollar cameras because that is exactly what you get.

We have some very nice AXIS cameras that cost over $1000 dollars and they are well worth the money.

We also have some FLIR cameras that are $400 dollars (Then you would need to pay for the cable and installation) and these are IP cameras 3MP with 2.8-12mm lens and IP66 rated for the weather so they are a much better bet than a $50 dollar camera.

Think about it, you are going to pay the same installation and wire cost but if you put in poor quality cameras you will need to pay for installation twice and the camera twice as well.

Peak Alarm has been in business for over 46 years, has their own UL listed Central Monitoring Station, Installation Department, AV Division, Guard and Patrol Division and holds a current A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau. In the last 3 years Peak Alarm has only had 3 complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Better Business Bureau click here

This is like jerky, except it is octopus jerky or squid and it is spicy, well you can buy the one that is not but that is not as good. My two daughters and I love this as a snack. It sounds strange but you need to try new things to appreciate them. Who knows you may love it like we do.

The majority of our business is commercial although we do our fair share of residential systems as well. Peak Alarm will design a system based on your needs and budget.

Check the Better Business Bureau before you buy since many of our competitors have hundreds of complaints logged with them.

Peak Alarm has been in business for over 46 years (Since 1969) and has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, is licensed, insured and is current on all appropriate taxes and factory training.

Peak Alarm has several offices to serve you in Utah and Idaho with 271 employees and a full Guard and Patrol division and a professional AV division that ranked 18 in the nation in SDM magazine this year. (2015) Peak Alarm also ranked in the top 100 companies nationwide (#61) up one position from last year.

Security cameras do act as a deterrent although they do not stop crime although they give you evidence after the fact. We have a Videofied line that will allow intruders to be seen by our dispatchers and after we verify it is a real intruder we can send our patrol units or the police. Take a look at the web site. The video is sent over a cellular network so it is not as clear as you would get with an NVR or DVR system although the alarm would be verified in that same moment and the authorities sent out. This system can be completely wireless so you can set it up on a job site or a field or property that does not have a power source. For the first 4 cameras there is a monthly charge of $43 added to your monitoring and if you don’t have monitoring Peak the monthly fee would be $75 per month. The inside camera systems cost a bit less per month.

Call Larry at Peak Alarm for a Videofied quote today

Peak Alarm also has security systems that can have cameras added to them and you can view them remotely from your phone and they will take up to 1000 clips of approximately 10-15 sec after an alarm although these cameras tied to your security system do not record but they do allow you to look at live video at any time and after you are notified of an alarm you may look at the live video feed. Many people also use these cameras to check in on their pets at home or their office when they are away. These cameras can be very affordable to add to your security system. There is a $10 per month fee added to your monitoring when you add security cameras to your security panel in order to pay for the bandwidth and cellular charge when you use the free app. The cost to add an indoor camera to your system is around $249 each when your system is compatible. The cost to add an outdoor camera to your system is about $429 each and they need to be near a 120 volt power outlet. They are wireless for transmitting video although they do need power

When you decide on a security camera system we can help you determine when you would like to have an entry level, midrange or high end system installed at your home or facility. Cameras range from around $200 each to around $650 for a entry level or midrange camera and the higher end cameras run over $1000 depending on the features, brand and warranty. The NVR units run from under $1000 to several thousand depending on the brand and configuration of the NVR or server. Units that record video on 2 drives at once incase one fails are more expensive. When you want to add a UPS that can back up a 16 channel IP camera system for over 90 minutes that will run you just over $1000 in addition to the system although you can buy a UPS that runs the NVR for a few minutes for under $200. Doing some research can end up saving you quite a bit of money in the long run.

When you decide to install a system yourself and purchase it off the internet or at a big box store it is wise to buy 2 or 3 of those systems because there is a good chance the equipment will fail and getting service is difficult and sometimes the connectors are not universal. It is prudent to have an experienced company install your system for your and you will have the confidence that the camera system was done right

Call Larry Love today for a Quote on any of these types of systems (801) 428 1384 or his email is larry@peakalarm.com
