Security companies in Utah are not equal

Not all companies are alike

You’ve heard that we should compare apples to apples rather than apples and oranges.

Company One – UL listed monitoring station – backup generators – extra personnel on duty – secure facility – backup equipment in case of failure
Company two operating with one piece of equipment and no backup and one person in the facility. They they have a heart attack signals are not sent on to authorities.

Many other companies – OVER 1000 COMPLAINTS two of our competitors have over 3000 complaints (ASK WHY) – Sure you will find complaints on the internet for any company although looking at the is important because they investigate both sides of the issues so a customer that knows they did not pay their bill and should have normally won’t file a complaint but will complain online.

Company one – Advertises with actual commercials and word of mouth advertising.
Many other companies pay to be on a top ten alarm company list so when the internet pulls up results also check the Better Business Bureau not just a top internet list that is paid for.

Company one in business since 1969 not using gimmicks of offering free equipment
Many other companies giving free equipment out like candy – Often they go out of business in a few years.

Company one puts together custom systems to meet your needs
Other companies don’t address individual needs as well because they are cookie cutter companies

Company one has actual people that you can talk with and personal service
Many other companies are very difficult to talk to after you have purchased the system and need anything else.

Utah Alarm Dealer makes drastic change

I took this picture in Guatemala, Isabal

With many alarm dealers having to deal with hackers and people being able to remotely disarm their systems because they are not encrypted. Peak Alarm decided to make a major product shift.

Peak Alarm has decided to begin selling QOLSYS this product is unlike most other security systems and here is a quick list of some of their features:

S Lines Sensors are all Encrypted to prevent hacking
Blue Tooth Router built in
Built in Glass Break Sensor
Built in 5MP camera that takes a picture of who disarms and a 4 minute video when alarms occur
Z-Wave Plus
Software update
Blue Tooth disarming capable so you don’t even have to take out your phone to disarm
Flood sensors, temperature sensors, motion sensors door status switches and much more

Most other alarm panels do not have the blue tooth built in, most other alarm panels do not have encryption. (Peak Alarm offers DMP which is encrypted for higher end commerical projects

Making this switch means that the basic system will cost a bit more but keep in mind you get what you pay for.

Qolsys did not take an alarm panel and convert it to a smart tablet but they took a tablet and made it into an alarm panel. This system is more robust than other systems, has a much greater capasity in all respects as far as user codes and how many points you can add to the system.

Senior Citizen monitoring discount Peak Alarm

Marilyn Sheppick

Peak Alarm will lock in Senior Citizens at a fixed monitoring rate. Senior Citizens often are on a fixed income and having a monitoring company increase their rates every years on their security system monitoring does not help.

Call Larry Love (801) 428 1384 Peak Alarm

My mother remarried and I found out she was paying 72 dollars a month through one of the largest national security monitoring companies and the rates had increased over the years. The 72 dollars a month was only for monthly monitoring and did not include other services it was through the phone line. I called that company to make the change since they were out of contract and it was very difficult to get them to cancel the agreement even though they were not under contract any longer. I lowered her rate and added a medical button which she did end up pushing when she fell in the bathroom. Peak Alarm’s monitoring rates start at $26 dollars a month and depending on what services you decide on such as another $10 for cellular or another $5 for interactive remote arm and disarm the rates can be a bit higher but once a senior is locked in they keep that rate. Jerry Howe the owner made this decision and we have been in business for over 48 years.

When to reuse existing alarm equipment

When I visit someones home to make recommendations of what equipment to reuse if any I look for a few things:

1. Are the smoke detectors over 10 years old, if so they should be replaced. This refers to smoke detectors tied to your alarm system. You should also replace your old 120 Volt smokes with 9 volt battery backup that are not tied to your alarm. You should have at least one smoke detector up and one down that is tied to the system so the authorities will be alerted when you are not there.

2. I look for hardwired zones because Peak Alarm can simply add a take over module and monitor existing hardwired zones. Depending on the size of your system we can use different brands to accomplish this.

3. I look for the brand and model numbers of the equipment. Often we can reuse wireless equipment by adding a module or special receiver which will save you money and we will simply put new batteries in those devices. Keep in mind that if you reuse existing wireless devices most of the time they are not encrypted. When we install a new Qolsys or DMP system that is wireless you will have the peace of mind that the encryption will make it so hackers cannot defeat your system from out front of your home.

4. If you want to use your old loud siren we will need to add a relay and a power supply. It is quite simple but it does cost a bit more if you are going to one of the new systems that has the siren built in.

5. Consider water sensors, temp sensors if the temperature drops below 41 you can get notified before the pipes freeze and then cause a flood when they thaw. Monitoring for water and temperature is wise and can mitigate possible problems.

6. I look for existing wiring and how it was done.

7. Give me a call and I can come out and look at your system and make some recommendations. 801 428 1384

8. Monitoring typically costs between $45 and $55 dollars. When I bundle the system I can lower the overall costs of monitoring

Contact Larry and he will come out and help you decide which equipment to reuse.

$30 Typical Monitoring cost
$10 Typical cellular monthly charge
$5 Typical interactive (Elite) to alarm remote arm and disarm using your cellular
$10 Typical charge for areas like Salt Lake or WVC to have a guard respond since police won’t. (Peak has their own guards/patrol)
$7 Starts at $7 and goes up depending on the size of the security system for a repair agreement extended warranty

When I do a bundle I can offer some discounts.

$25 Monitoring
$13 Interactive
$7 Repair agreement
$10 Alarm response

Total $55 per month for a home or business in Salt Lake with alarm response. Most companies start interactive at $49 without alarm response or a repair agreement. Without alarm response it would be $45

If you add camera control that adds $10 per month for 1-4 cameras for cameras that are part of the security system. When they are separate there is not a monthly fee.

Most companies use a third party central station or an out of state central station. Peak Alarm is local and employees over 300 people here in Utah and Idaho.

When you are a senior citizen we can lock your monitoring rate in for life so please call me about this. I don’t know of any company that does this in Salt Lake.

Fine Print in Security System contracts

Read the fine print

Today I looked at one of my competitors advertisements and it says They are giving away a FREE SYSTEM, FREE SENSORS and even a FREE GIFT CARD. I looked at the fine print and found a few items that may be helpful to you as a customer.

This is valid only with home systems.
This offer includes up to 15 sensors free for pre wired homes or upto 7 free sensors for wireless but labor charges MAY apply.
This offer with the lower monitoring rate does not include a cellular connection but is contingent upon the customer paying for a landline.
This offer does not include interactive control or remote arm and disarm (Elite)
This offer does not include the extended warranty. (Service Plan – Repair agreement etc…) Hourly rates will apply for repairs.
Gift card is through a 3rd Party and they charge a shipping and handling fee.
The system is apparently free but there is a $99 dollar installation fee.
There is a 36 month agreement that has to be signed
Form of payment must be by credit card or electronic charge to your checking or savings account.
Termination fee applies
This offer is contingent upon the customer passing a CREDIT CHECK. (Peak Alarm does NOT do CREDIT CHECKS)
This offer is to get the salesman in the door because this offer cannot be combined with other offers so the low monitoring rate may not apply

Review your alarm contract closely

Check the BBB Better Business Bureau on every company that you get pricing from. Some of our competitors even the ones that are running ads similar to this add have thousands of complaints filed. Two of our competitors have over 3000 complaints on the BBB. Peak Alarm has had one complaint filed with the BBB in the last 3 years. That is a real issue because you might sign up and then find out you signed a 60 month agreement or if you don’t have a phone line you end up paying over $50 per month for monitoring. Often if you are in SLC they sign you up for monitoring and since the police don’t respond you have to end up paying a guard service which costs much more than the $10 per month that Peak Charges. Get the facts. Peak Alarm is the only local company that has both a Guard Service, an alarm company and a UL listed Central station to do your monitoring. Many of the others have out of state monitoring stations and no guard service or a 3rd party guard service.

So your installing a new security system beware?

Security in Utah

Security Systems in Utah

Before going with any security company go through a simple checklist:

1. Check the Better Business Bureau for how many complaints, the type of complaints and reviews.
Two of the large competitors have over 3000 complaints that have been filed.

2. If the security system is internet based know that if the power goes out so will your security system.
Sure the system is less expensive but ask yourself why is it less money?

3. If you only have a phone line connected and the phone line is cut no signals will be sent. (Install AES Radio or Cellular)
Having both phone and cell is fine but phone only or internet only is not as secure.

4. Ask yourself if you would buy Chinese food from your plumber. If not then buy security from a security company not a cable company.
We specialize in security, we don’t do other things outside of that scope. Look online and find out what type of service others have gotten from that company. When you buy cable TV or Dish often it is very easy to buy but how good is the customer service after you have purchased? Are they a local company?

5. Is their central station UL listed and 5 Diamond Certified? Why should you care? It makes a difference.
If you are dealing with a local company they know the area and they are easier to deal with.

6. Does the alarm company you are going with have a Guard/Patrol service inhouse? If you are in SLC know that Police do not respond to normal alarms.

A. Peak Alarm has only had one complaint in the last 3 years.
B. Peak Can install an AES Radio or Cellular communicator with battery backup in case the power goes out.
C. Peak is a local company that has been in business for over 48 years
D. Peak Alarm has a full service Guard/Patrol, UL listed central Station that is 5 Diamond certified
E. Peak Alarm is a local with all employees having been through an extensive FBI background check.

Camera system for my business or home

Peak Alarm web site ask for Larry Love

Viewing cameras from your smart phone

What you should understand before buying and installing a camera system in your home or business

1. Buy two systems if you buy a kit from a big box store so you have replacements.
2. If you are buying a $30 camera understand that you get what you pay for. Spend a bit more for a decent system.
3. Have a Professional do the installation so the cable and equipment is installed properly.
4. Peak Alarm can install 4 cameras for as low as $1,800 with 1TB NVR and 4 of the 1.3MP coax cameras (MPX)
5. Peak Alarm can install 4 IP cameras for as low as $2,300 with 2TB NVR and 4 of the 2.1MP IP cameras
6. The four camera system I would recommend have motorized zoom cameras w/4 3MP cameras and a 6TB NVR for $4,321.00
7. Go with verifocal lenses rather than fixed lenses, the motorized allow you to adjust from a narrow to wide angle view.
8. We can do a lease with an extended warranty or you can buy the equipment out right.
9. All the above systems allow you to view the cameras from your smart phone but your upload speed should be at least 2.5mbps
10. Recently a customer told me he had put in 2 of the bigbox systems and now he wanted a real system. They work but the quality is different.
11. When you compare a $30 dollar camera to a $420 dollar camera there is a massive difference. Often the IRs will go out early on the least expensive units.

Peak Alarm is a professional company that has been in business for 48 years, licensed, insured and factory trained Peak does it right the first time.

Peak Alarm only has had one complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau in the last 3 years. BBB web site check with name and your ZIP

Peak Alarm is the only Alarm company that has a UL listed central station and a full service Guard Patrol division.
