Security companies in Utah are not equal

Not all companies are alike

You’ve heard that we should compare apples to apples rather than apples and oranges.

Company One – UL listed monitoring station – backup generators – extra personnel on duty – secure facility – backup equipment in case of failure
Company two operating with one piece of equipment and no backup and one person in the facility. They they have a heart attack signals are not sent on to authorities.

Company one – NO COMPLAINTS WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
Many other companies – OVER 1000 COMPLAINTS two of our competitors have over 3000 complaints (ASK WHY) – Sure you will find complaints on the internet for any company although looking at the BBB.org is important because they investigate both sides of the issues so a customer that knows they did not pay their bill and should have normally won’t file a complaint but will complain online.

Company one – Advertises with actual commercials and word of mouth advertising.
Many other companies pay to be on a top ten alarm company list so when the internet pulls up results also check the Better Business Bureau not just a top internet list that is paid for.

Company one in business since 1969 not using gimmicks of offering free equipment
Many other companies giving free equipment out like candy – Often they go out of business in a few years.

Company one puts together custom systems to meet your needs
Other companies don’t address individual needs as well because they are cookie cutter companies

Company one has actual people that you can talk with and personal service
Many other companies are very difficult to talk to after you have purchased the system and need anything else.

Top Five Alarm Companies in Utah

Top alarm company lists are a tangled mess

Why should you be skeptical of TOP lists found online? ANSWER: Because many of those sites listing top 5 or top 10 are PAID SERVICES.

One of the sites gave a number #1 recommendation for an alarm company that has over 3800 complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Better Business Bureau web site www.bbb.org

Look up each and every company you intend on getting pricing from. Check for government actions against them, law suits and reviews. The above company that was rated number one has government actions pending against them. They are a very large company so when comparing them against local companies you need to understand that if they have a million accounts then they are 83 times larger than say Peak Alarm who only has 12,000 accounts. So that being the case this company should have 83 times the complaints right? That would mean they should have 83 complaints if they are on the same level as a local company that has one complaint. Peak Alarm has 1 complaint that has been filed with the www.bbb.org in the last 3 years and this number 1 listed alarm company has over 3800 complaints which is over 400% more complaints so take the fact that these top 5 or top 10 lists are paid services.

Real actual best TOP Alarm companies in Utah

Mountain Alarm -aka Fire Protection Services – 67 years in business – Local Company – Only 2 complaints in the last 3 years with the BBB
Peak Alarm – 48 years in business UL listed Local Central Station – Full Guard/Patrol services – Local Company – Only 1 complaint in the last 3 years
Alarm Control – aka Armed Alert – 48 years in business – Zero complaints in the last 3 years

Mountain Alarm Fire Protection Services web site
Peak Alarm web site ask for Larry Love
Alarm Control Armed Alert web site

The above companies are all licensed by the Utah Division of Occupational Licensing and they are also insured. All of the above companies do not concentrate on LICK and STICK products. (Just wireless) so they have extensive experience with commercial and residential products unlike many of the new companies that just do wireless. The technicians understand the industry and all of these companies are qualified to do commercial fire alarm, intrusion, access control and cameras.

Now if we look at the companies that spend the most money on advertising and companies that have the most accounts then the list could change.

ADT Security Services ADT web site This company has 127 years in business. This is a licensed and insured company.

Now we do need to mention ADT which is a National Alarm company and now they own Protection One. ADT Security Services on the Better Business Bureau Web site has over ________complaints that have been filed in the last 3 years, granted they are a very large company. ____% of their reviews on the BBB are negative although many people do have good experiences with this company. Now that they own Protection one we will see if they will be doing anything different. Protection one was in business 29 years before they were purchased by ADT. Protection one only has about 16% of the amount of complaints that ADT has. Rather than saying anything negative about this company I would encourage you to look at the better business bureau report for each company yourself. Going with a national company sometimes has it advantages and other times when you go with a very large company it can be difficult to get to the proper department when you do need help. I dread calling my cable company for service for the same reason because I am normally on for over a hour just trying to talk to someone. Going with a local company can have advantages. If you are trying to sign up for service the lines are clear and the process is quick. If you are trying to get service after your system has been installed it is a bit different.

So when comparing companies there are companies that spend a great deal on advertising and there are companies that have more accounts than other companies so they are in the TOP 10 or TOP 5 list in certain areas.

When a company tells you that the equipment is FREE read the fine print because when it is all said an done all alarm companies are in business to make money not to give stuff away. They will either make their money now or later but they will make money. They will either sign you up for a longer term, charge more now or raise your rates after a year or two. One of these companies was charging my mother over 70 per month for basic phone line monitoring with no interactive services and no other services and it took me quite a while on the line to get her account canceled even though she was out of contract. This basic service should cost around $25-30 per month.

Rated best all around Alarm Company in Utah

Factors for rating the best all around alarm company in Utah. If you find another company that meets all of these criteria please let me know and I will add them to this article. :

1. Years in service 47+ and family owned.

2.A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau http://www.bbb.org and this company only has 2 complaints on file within the last 2 years.

3. Ability to do any size project for Fire Alarm, Home Security, Business Alarms, Access Control, Intercoms and Cameras. This company has the capacity and 270 employees and can do any size project.

4. UL listed Central Station that is 5 Diamond certified with backup systems in place and backup central stations out of state. This company has more UL Certifications than any UL Central Station in Utah. Facts don’t lie. http://www.ul.com
5. This company owns their own Guard and Patrol division so they can respond to alarms and they have guard accounts and a large patrol division. All other alarm companies in the state of Utah hire this service out to a third party company.

6. This company also has an AV Division that is rated #19th in the National for what they do. This Audio Visual division can do home theater systems, security systems and very large theaters. They welcome you for tours at their Salt Lake City location.

7. This company has 4 offices to serve you in Salt Lake City, Saint George, Idaho Falls and Boise Idaho. They also have guard and patrol services in Park City and the adjacent areas.

8. This company does not charge a trip charge for accounts within 45 minutes of their offices. Many companies charge over $100 dollars per hour for trip charges so this alone would add over $200 more to a service call if you were 45 minutes away.

9. When reviewing the top ten lists or top five alarm company lists understand that you are viewing paid advertisements. Many of the companies that appear in these lists have over 100 complaints filed with the BBB and one top competitors has over 3000 filed in the last 2 years and they are currently being sued in several states.

10. This top rated company has a CAD department with the ability to do the drawings needed to submit to the city to get your permits and to get the job done professionally. Do your research before you hire an alarm company and I would be leery of the TOP rated companies on the PAID lists.

11. This company is licensed and insured and holds National Training certificates and has multiple NICET trained people. This company can provide you with the General Liability insurance required as well as Workers Compensation Insurance certificates and a very long list of projects that they have completed.

Who is this company that meets all the above criteria?

PEAK ALARM http://www.peakalarm.com
Peak SECURITY Peak Security Guards and Patrol
Peak AV Audio Visual http:www.peakav.net
Peak Central Station – UL listed Central Station – UL2050 for High Security -Fire Alarm – Home & Business – Bank Safe Vault etc….

Many companies that are on the top ten or top five lists mainly concentrate on wireless systems because they are quick and easy. Peak Alarm does more commercial alarm systems than residential although it is just over 50% commercial and we can do the job right the first time.

The Company I would rate as number two: I did find another company that met many of the criteria but not all. The company I found does not have a Guard and Patrol division and they sold their central station although it did stay in the family so as I said they meet many of the criteria but not all. Mountain Alarm in Ogden is a great company and large enough to do most any project, they are insured, licensed and factory trained. They do both commercial and residential. Mountain Alarm has been in business since 1952, they also only have 2 complaints on file with the BBB in the last 2 years and they also have an A+ rating. When I was the Chairman of the Alarm Systems Board for Division of Occupational Licensing for the State of Utah Scott Sessions with Mountain Alarm was on the Board with me. Scott is a very professional businessman and a very positive and honest guy. So their you have it two recommendations for all around top rated Alarm Companies here in Utah. When hardwired systems are installed there is a charge for wire/cable and time to install the cable including drilling and or installation of conduit and or wiremold. Having a PREWIRE done while your building is in the stick phase is very prudent. On a hardwired system you don’t have to change the batteries at the device location just at the headend location once every 3 or 5 years. (Normally)

The PeakLink can also have a repeater added to the system allowing you to have the less expensive system installed in your larger home when 48 points is sufficient.

TOP 10 Home Security Systems & Home Alarm companies in Utah County may need to be updated

Update your top ten company list with companies that have a good BBB rating

Update your top ten company list with companies that have a good BBB rating

Top 10 Home Security company systems and home alarm companies in Utah county needs to be updated. One company is listed twice and the name of that company was changed to another name a couple of years ago and another is on the BBB alert list because their phone numbers have been disconnected and the mail comes back as un-deliverable.

The ratings are done by a company that you can pay for and they show up in the top portions of the search engines and they do exactly what they say they will do, they get you to the top of the list and apparently it does not matter how many complaints your company has had filed against it or how many current law suits are being filed against your company you can still pay for and get to the top of the search engine.

Now lets look at the results and look up the Better Business Bureau rating on each of the companies and see how they match up to other security companies in Utah

Two of the supposedly best 10 Home security companies in Utah and Utah country have a score of F with the Better Business Bureau www.BBB.org

Another of the listed and reviewed TOP ten companies has a score of D and one of the companies has an alert with the BBB because they are apparently out of business because the mail is returned and the phone numbers have been disconnected. It may be a good thing to make up your own top ten list with current information using our list below.

One of the companies listed has had over 3200 complaints filed in the last 3 years. How do you suppose the ratings were done if not from customer reviews? Looking at the issues filed there are many issues with sales, advertising and equipment problems

Now when we look at two of the largest Utah companies who have been in business for many years what did we find?

Mountain Alarm has an A+ rating with the BBB and only one complaint filed in the last 3 years. www.mountainalarm.com

Peak Alarm also has an A+ rating www.PeakAlarm.com and has only had 5 complaints filed in the last 3 years with no complaints filed in the last year. Peak Alarm has been in business for over 45 years and they are licensed and insured and Interestingly enough neither of these high rated successful companies made it to the TOP 10 HOME SECURITY UTAH COMPANIES.

When you need pricing for security, fire alarm, access control or cameras check the BBB.org site before you buy and make sure you don’t fall into the trap of picking one of the top 5 companies that may or may not really be in the top five companies. The company that reviews does say it is their top 5 picks so do some more research and come up with the real top five alarm companies in Utah that meet the following criteria.

1. Check the Better Business Bureau www.BBB.org Valid complaints that are presented to the BBB are submitted and researched.
2. Check DOPL Utah Division of Professional Licencing
3. Check online reviews – All large companies will have some negative comments posted and some of the negative comments are done by the same people.
4. How many years has the company been in business?
5. Does the company have their own UL listed Central Station for monitoring or do they sell their accounts to other companies?
6. Does the company have a Security Patrol or Guard Patrol Division (Especially useful where the police have a non-response policy)
7. Does the company have experience with commercial and residential or mostly residential?
8. Does the company have certified NICET technicians and certified techs through the State fire Marshal’s office?

Once you have the answers to these questions you have done your research and you can now decide which three bids you want to get rather than wasting time on companies that have thousands of complaints and companies that are currently being sued in several states. TOP TEN HOME SECURITY COMPANIES IN UTAH SHOULD BE UPDATED TO INCLUDE CURRENT INFORMATION
